Sunday Fun!

Great bike riding for the whole family!

Beautiful Sunday weather calls for a family outing and team Little Chillies loves bike riding :-)  There are some fantastic bike paths around Melbourne, and one local to us in the East is Gardiners Creek bike trail.  If your littlies are too little to ride bikes, we highly recommend the double seater Croozer.  The Croozer is not only a trailer, it quickly converts to a pram or jogger.  As a parent, you will appreciate the volume of storage space you have in the rear!  Only downside is the challenge of fitting it through standard doorways.

Markham Reserve gets 5 STARS!

Along Gardiners Creek bike trail, you must stop at one of the best outdoor playgrounds in Melbourne: along Victory Boulevard, Markham Reserve.  The kids will absolutely love it.  We give this playground 5 stars ;-)  It has everything; modern play ground that is fenced off, shade areas, picnic areas and toilets.  You may have a challenge attempting to lure your children away from this playground, but we highly recommend taking the little tykes there.

The Resident Café gets the THUMBS UP!

After completing the stretch between Markham Reserve and High Street Ashburton, we suggest stopping for breaky, brunch or lunch.

There are a few cafés now along High Street Ashburton, but we love it when a new one pops up that is GREAT!  Located right on the bike path, 'The Resident Cafe' has now only been open for 6 weeks. It's not well sign posted, but please don't miss this one.  Their service is fantastic, particularly with the kids.  Importantly, they had great coffee and food, and a gorgeous courtyard out the back with couch-like cushioned benches and umbrellas.  It's very pleasant!    Oh, and let's not forget to mention the toilets, they are lovely.  Yes, I love when a café puts effort into the presentation of the bathroom: Aésop and all :-)

Home again, home again, jiggity jig!

Once re-fueled with great food, pull out the balance bike for the ride home (Our Little Chillies have a Likeabike Jumper).  They are great for learning exactly that, balance!  Once a child has mastered the art of balance, you can introduce pedals, in theory, completely by-passing training wheels!  Posing on her bike, Mademoiselle Amélie has almost mastered the art of balance.

I hope you enjoyed your Sunday :-)
